Allister - The Spectral Shy Guy
I got into Pokemon in 2018 when I started binge watching the anime on the internet, much like I did with Kirby a couple of months prior. I used to really love it, I ended up watching basically every episode that was out at the time and continued to watch new episodes, I even played some of the games on an emulator but I never got more than 5 gym badges. I followed all the announcements and leaks for Sword & Shield very closely, but when I saw Allister for the first time I didn't really care. Around 2021-2022, I stopped watching the anime because I stopped checking the sketchy website I watched it on for new episodes and started to find most movies and TV shows overstimulating anyway. As a result, my interest in Pokemon faded away as well. I do not like Pokemon at all anymore, though sometimes I still watch Pokemon content on YouTube just to see what the PokeTubers I used to watch are up to. (I also like making custom Pokemon cards, but I never make cards of Pokemon or any human character from Pokemon that isn't Allister)
After I watched Carlito's "Every Shy Guy Ever" video, I became super obsessed with Shy Guys. Eventually I remembered that there's literally a Pokemon character who wears a Shy Guy mask. I got all giddy about it for a second, but I stopped myself because I started to kind of hate Pokemon back then and felt weird about gushing over ANYTHING Pokemon related. A couple months passed. I couldn't live in ignorance of Allister any longer. I went on Bulbapedia and started reading plot summaries of every episode from the moment I stopped watching all the way until the last episode where Ash is the protagonist. I downloaded all my favorite screenshots of Allister from the anime. One of them was even my desktop wallpaper for a while. I couldn't stop thinking about him. That human Shy Guy has appeared in my dreams more times than all the other characters I'm obsessed with. Even Meta Knight showed up in my dreams less in the past 4 years than Allister has in the past 4 months!
Reasons why I'm obsessed with Allister:
- HE WEARS A SHY GUY MASK (If he didn't this obsession would have never started, I still think his face is adorable anyway)
- He kind of looks like a Vocaloid
- His uniform number is divisible by 3!!!
- His outfit is adorable
- He can talk to ghosts
- I kind of relate to him in a weird way
- There is a brand of powertools called MacAllister and I love joking about him being the CEO (I know it's a store brand, I still like making fun of the name anyway)
- I keep coming up with insane headcanons about him that fuel the obsession even more
- He lives on his own, runs a Pokemon gym, can cook AND is considered a specialist at the age of 10? WHAT AN ENTREPENEUR!!
- I have a weird soft spot for the UK, the inspiration behind Allister's region. Haven't been there yet and won't go there anytime soon, but my sister certainly has. She gave me some candy that was hard to find in Poland and a Minecraft toy upon returning home so I've had pleasant associations with the country for quite a while. I also grew up watching Cbeebies and a decent amount of British YouTubers. One of DanTDM's old mod reviews was literally the first YouTube video I've watched that wasn't in Polish. And I miss Tesco, I'm sad we don't have it in Poland anymore...
